Romeo And Juliet Deaths Essays (886 words) -

Romeo And Juliet Deaths William Shakespeare wrote many great plays in his day. His tale of Romeo and Juliet portrays a tragic love. This play ends with the deaths of the key characters Romeo and Juliet, because of their forbidden love. Many factors contribute to their demise. The scene of when they first meet, the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio, and the final death scene all reveal why the two of them cannot be together in the end. Romeo and Juliet are ultimately killed because of their decisions and fate. The effects of Romeo and Juliet's decisions and fate are first apparent in the scene when they first come together. When Romeo says to Juliet in the Capulet party, "Thus from my lips, by thine my sin is purged" (I,v,108), and then he kisses her, it obviously exhibitions how they exercise their choice to love each other. After discovering each other's identities, Romeo proclaims, "My life is my foe's debt" (I,v,119), and Juliet states, "My only love sprung from my only hate" (I,v,140). These lines foreshadow that there will be many impediments keeping them apart and eventually killing them both. It might be thought that the tragic ending is caused by them choosing to love each other. However, if fate does not bring them together in the first place, they will never have the opportunity to establish their love. Romeo and Juliet are affected by their choices and fate right from the beginning. Romeo's actions and chance also cause the chaos in Romeo and Mercutio's fight scene with Tybalt. When Romeo replies to Tybalt when he is first insulted and threatened on the street, "I do protest I never injure thee, but love thee better than thou canst devise" (III,I,67-8), it means he does not mean Tybalt any harm and is walking away from the fight. Then, Mercutio steps in for Romeo and starts fighting with Tybalt. Romeo gets between them, which allows Tybalt to kill Mercutio, and later results in Romeo killing Tybalt. It is very easy to point the finger at Romeo and accuse him of allowing Mercutio to be killed. His decision directly allows Tybalt to stab Mercutio, but he is trying work it out so no one will be injured, like peer mediation. Although he has no clue that he will do more harm, Romeo is actually trying to help. That's where fate affects him. Also, it can be said that Romeo is entirely responsible for killing Tybalt. When Romeo exclaims to Tybalt after he comes back from killing Mercutio, "And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!" (III,I,123), it shows how he is furious and wants to fight. A lot of people say that Romeo has no need to fight, but what if he does not? Didn't something horrible happen the last time he walked away? Maybe Benvolio will start a fight with Tybalt and be killed as well. So fate does have a role in deciding the outcome. It is hard to conclude that everything will be all right for Romeo if he does not fight Tybalt. In this sense, the fight scene shows how fate and Romeo's decisions are responsible for two deaths and banishment. The final scene itself shows how Romeo and Juliet's decisions and fate lead to their deaths. Their destiny "A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life. . . doth their death bury their parents' strife" (1st prologue, 6-8), stated in the prologue, describes how they are foretold to die and many people agree that it is fate that ultimately causes their deaths. If the friar in Mantua arrives earlier to deliver Friar Lawrence's message or if Romeo arrives just a few minutes later in the Capulet tomb, it's possible that the finale would change. Even though fate will allow Romeo and Juliet to carry out their plan, they are the ones who decide to commit suicide in the first place. Juliet speaks to herself before she drinks the friar's potion: Come, vial. What if this mixture do not work at all? Shall I be married then tomorrow morning? No, no! This shall forbid it. Lie thou there." (IV,iv,21-3) After speaking, Juliet lays a dagger down beside her and that displays how she is prepared to kill herself instead of not seeing Romeo again. Also, Romeo says to the nurse in Friar Lawrence's cell, "Doth my name lodge? Tell me, that I may sack the hateful mansion" (III,iii,107-8) and offers to kill himself. Since there is virtually no chance of them being able to live together happily

Animal farm Essay Essays

Animal farm Essay Essays Animal farm Essay Paper Animal farm Essay Paper Essay Topic: Animal Farm What is the satirical comment that Orwell Is trying to make in Animal Farm how does he achieve this? George Rowels famous Allegorical Beast fable titled Animal Farm, comments on the Russian revolution and on the misuse and abuse of power. A master piece of political satire, Animal Farm Is a tale of oppressed individuals who long for freedom. Through his literary links to cooperating, revisionism and propaganda Orwell makes a satirical comment on the way in which those who long for freedom, ultimately are corrupted by assuming the very power hat had originally oppressed them. This reveals his contextual concerns around socialism, communism and fascism, which he viewed as repressive and self serving. By depicting those involved in communism and the Russian revolution as animals, Orwell undermines their authority so as to expose the underlying truth. Cooperating, is the act of making an individual or group of individuals bear the blame of the wrong doings of others or to suffer their consequences, Animal Farm satirists the way those In power may create a scapegoat to deflect criticism, blame or accusation. Through Rowels character Snowball, Napoleon Is able to make the ultimate scapegoat, consequently the repetition of Napoleon accusations and squealers persuasion the animals become convinced that Snowball was Indeed against them from the beginning and this hatred and fear of this common enemy the animals unite. For example in Chapter 6, upon the findings of the ruined windmill Napoleon announces, upon smelling the pig tracks left in the yard that Snowball had in fact destroyed the windmill; In sheer malignity, thinking to set back our plans and venue himself for his expulsion, this traitor has crept here under cover of night and destroyed our work of nearly a year. Snowball is also said to be in league with Mr. Jones from the start, and is also Revisionism is the characterizes by the alteration of historic events to suit those in higher power or authority (cons) Propaganda Is the distribution of Information In an effort to Influence or manipulate societys opinion. Throughout the Russian Revolution, propaganda was widely used by the leaders of the revolution In order to gain support from the public. George Orwell portrayed the manipulation of speech through a character named Squealer, a pig who acted as a spokesperson for Napoleon. One example of Squealers use of propaganda to gain the animals support can be seen in his speech denouncing snowball part in the rebellion after he was banished from the farm. Using the animals stupidity to his advantage, Squealer played with the minds of all the animals, describing a twisted version of the events of the Battle of the Cowshed, one of the battles that were fought during the rebellion. In Squealers version of Snowballs part of the battle, Snowball as planning to leave the field to the enemy. Afterwards, Squealer described how Napoleon was the one who sprang forward with a cry of death to humanity! and sank his teeth Into Mr. Jones leg. During his speech, Squealer describes everything In so much detail that It seemed to the animals that they did remember It. As a result, Squealer has used propaganda to manipulate the memories of the animals so they would believe that Napoleon is the rightful person to trust and Snowball was actually on ten sloe AT ten enemy. George Orwell stressfully uses propaganda In Nils Allegorical Beast Fable to express his opinion on how the communist system of the Russian Revolution gradually went from an equal system, to a system that was overcome by greed and dishonesty. Another form of propaganda is shown when the pigs begin to twist the seven commandments of Minimalism. At the start of the revolution, the sixth of the seven commandments read No animal shall be killed by any other animal. However, in order to reason with the animals after killing those who opposed Napoleon, the rule has been changed to No animal shall be killed by NY other animal without cause. As a result, Napoleons actions for eliminating those animals were Justified because the animals thought a few words from the commandment was slipped from memory. Since the other animals were not as clever compared to the pigs and were not as capable of thinking for themselves, the animals used the seven commandments as an agreement to what was right and what was wrong. Therefore, when the pigs changed the seven commandments, the animals did not think badly of Napoleons misuse of his authority.

Alt as an Alternative to Alternative

Alt as an Alternative to Alternative Alt as an Alternative to Alternative Alt as an Alternative to Alternative By Mark Nichol The prefix alt-, an abbreviation of alternate, has appeared in the media lately, attached to the word right to denote a political movement supporting nationalism and opposing multiculturalism and liberal immigration policies. Although this prominence is a very recent phenomenon, the term alt-right- or, at least, its full form, â€Å"alternative right†- is not brand new: Coined in 2008, it was adopted two years later as the name of a website devoted to content espousing alt-right principles. However, it’s unclear when the abbreviated version of the term was coined; it might date back mere days or weeks at most. A dictionary entry offers this definition of alt: â€Å"Denoting a version of something, especially music, that is intended as a challenge to the traditional version.† (Alternative, in this sense meaning â€Å"not traditional or usual,† is an extension of alternate, which is ultimately derived from Latin alter, meaning â€Å"other.†) The coinage follows a format employed for a handful of terms, of which alt-rock is the most prominent: In 1979, various sources began to refer to underground music inspired by the punk rock movement with the adjective alternative; as such music, ironically, became mainstream, it was labeled, among other things, â€Å"alternative rock,† and thence alt-rock. As this movement was increasingly commercially exploited, the term’s popularity declined. However, the prefix has been affixed more recently to comedy that, like anything alt, is considered edgy or iconoclastic. Similarly, alt-fiction is the term given to novels and short stories that subvert and defy conventions of traditional fiction. There’s even alt-dating, the use of online dating websites that appeal to people outside mainstream society. Such terms are perhaps inspired in part by the use of the prefix alt in Usenet, a computer-based discussion system established in 1980, to denote groups outside the system’s conventional discussion categories. The abbreviation is also familiar to users of PC keyboards, which includes an Alt key used in combination with other keys to carry out a function distinct from that enabled by pressing the other key alone, but this term originates with alternate, not alternative. It’s quite likely that in our jargon-happy culture, the prefix may begin to appear more often, modifying additional nouns as a shortcut for signifying unconventional behavior or thought. In tandem, however, as often occurs when jargon proliferates, expect such terms to be used derisively or ironically as well as sincerely. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? BUSINESS LAW ( REPORT ) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

BUSINESS LAW ( REPORT ) - Essay Example Even in America itself, it is not possible for a company to function with a unique law in to different states. In other words, companies need to function with respect to the laws prevailing in the location where they operate. Separate legal personality and limited liability are two common terms associated with company law. Wiss (2010) describes separate legal personality as an incorporated company, â€Å"united or combined into an organised body† having rights and liabilities. In her opinion a company is a fictitious person who can enter into contracts, own property and even commit crimes. At the same time when a private company limited by shares, the creditors deal with the company, not with the individuals and it can be termed as a limited liability company. In such cases, if the company become bankrupt, the creditors or the investors do not get paid regardless of the personal financial capabilities of its memebrs (Wiss 2010). Separate legal personality and limited liability are two advantages of corporate status. But under certain circumstances these advantages will become invalid and this paper briefly explains such circumstances in which separate legal personality and limited liability will b ecome invalid. It is not possible for a company to take undue advantages in the name of limited liability or separate legal personality. Corporate law has mainly identified seven instances in which the corporate veil (law that protect the members or founders of a company in case a problem arises) can be lifted; fraud, agency, trust, group enterprise, tort enemy character, tax (Sadhu, n. d) Richard Wachman (2005) has mentioned that fraud is costing British business  £72 billion a year, 6% of the annual revenue of British businesses (Wachman, 2005). The recent corporate scandals involving Enron, WorldCom, Parmalat and Refco, have not taught any lessons to the authorities or the investors. Fraud can attain many forms; some companies may overstate their profits, some

Ethical Selling Essay Example for Free

Ethical Selling Essay In this contemporary period, most consumers base their confidence concerning products and services on their popularity. Famous brands which are used by known and prominent celebrities and personalities are often patronized and trusted by the majority of the consumers (Bannister Bonnice, 1986). Yet the quality of these brands is not really known to the consumers unless they start using the product or once they avail the service. Nevertheless, known and widely-used brands of products or services, being patronized and recognized by most consumers, do not only go with the idea that they have to gain much profit. In deed, they have to ensure their customers and clients that their products or services are of high quality in order to ensure also that there would be a good profit that would come to them as exchange for maintaining superior and trusted quality of their products or services. Yet, not all consumers base their purchasing attitude solely on the quality of the product or service. They also consider the price. The cheaper the price of the product or service, the more the consumers are attracted to buy them. But this does not suggest that all consumers are after cheap prices. However, there are some consumers who neglect the quality of the product or service just to have them at cheaper and more affordable prices (Bannister Bonnice, 1986). For these reasons, the highlight of advertisement is not on the quality of the product or service but more on its price. And the quality that is supposed to be the thing that the manufacturer and the consumer should uphold is being neglected in a way that some manufacturers make fake demonstrations in advertisements just to market their products or service. Many of these products are often found in T. V Shopping advertisements in which the consumers cannot really test the durability, the quality, or the serviceability of the product. But because the advertisers are so good in making fake demonstrations, they easily deceive and attract consumers to buy their products (Cook, 2001). An example product that is being advertized at televisions as well as internets is a carpet cleaner named Bosun 12v Cordless Wet and Dry Vacuum. It is a handheld vacuum cleaner that can be used to clean wet and dry spills on carpets. A particular television station airs numerous advertisements of products and services. And one of the products that is being advertized in that television station is Bosun. Yet, the product is questioned for its quality when one of the costumers complained that Bosun has a low quality and that it only works for three to five weeks. Also, the costumer said that the product is defective in a sense that it does not really clean wet spills on carpet which is included in its advertisement as one of its unique function. However, the manufacturer of the product claimed that their product is not defective. Truly, deception in marketing is being employed by some manufacturers to gain much profit for their own sake. They do not realize that their function is to provide good and efficient products to the consumers and not to harm or deceive them just for their own interest (Cook, 2001). As claimed by the Utilitarian Principle, producing the greatest good or greatest happiness for the greatest number is the standard of what is right or wrong. If this principle would be used to evaluate the above scenario, the manufacturer of Bosun failed to act morally. Also, if the Kantian Ethics would be used to evaluate the given case, the manufacturers of Bosun would still be labeled as immoral for they failed to do their duty –that is providing good and efficient products for the consumers (Beauchamp Bowie, 2003). There are many reports about fraud advertisements, in televisions, radios, print materials, and internet (Cook, 2001). And truly, there are laws that condemn the act of it. Yet, many are still practicing fraud advertising for the sake of obtaining more money. They failed to follow the Categorical Imperative suggested by Kant that is to always treat human beings as ends and not merely means to an end. This entails that manufacturers and advertisers must respect the consumers’ rights and not use them for their own advantage (Beauchamp Bowie, 2003).

The Sino-American Relationship Essay -- China Politics Government Essa

The Sino-American Relationship   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The main focus of this paper is to analyze the Sino-American relationship and the factors both past and present that make it a complicated and very important issue, as well as future expectations for the development of continued relations. American contact with China in the past has been less than positive and China is a country that values respect and honesty in its value system. China and the USA do not share the same view of the world. There has been much misunderstanding and even underhanded policy when it came to the USA, especially with the changing of our presidents. Clinton was a strong supporter of having Asia involved in the future of America. He urged that China become a part of the World Trade Organization to make the relationship that of a partnership. He had been quoted as referring to China as a strategic partner while Bush described China as a strategic competitor. (Tyler p1) Imagine the shock of China to be turned from favored friend to possible e nemy within the period of less than a year. In my opinion this is a relationship that both sides can mutually benefit from however up until this point it has been clouded by great egos and failed policies. This is an extremely important issue to discuss because China is one of the largest nations in terms of billions of people, as well as an upcoming superpower. In the future China will become stronger in terms of production and business, and the USA would be wise not to cause permanent damage by ignoring treaties and past foreign policy. America must remember they cannot change the rules of the game in the middle of playing! America is a democratic nation that values human rights, and in that platform fights a moral war naturally which would put the USA at odds with China on more than one issue.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  My personal expectations for the future of China and America’s diplomatic relationship is that it will continue to deteriorate if the USA does not find a better way to deal with the current problems involving Taiwan. The issue that I am mainly concerned with is the one-China principle which is set to have Taiwan ruled by the Communist party and no longer be a democratic entity and China would have sovereignty over Taiwan. Shakespeare-Macbeth Essay

Throughout the play as Macbeth wades out into the river of blood that he has created, with each death he is responsible for, he distances himself from her more and more. He does this to protect her, but instead it has the effect of isolating her. Sending her further and further into her own counsel, which drives her insane. Unable to cope with all that she has done and is responsible for. Her dreams are plagued by guilt. She has not place to escape from herself or her mind so she does the only thing she can, kills herself. The ultimate act to escape herself, and the reality she has made for herself. After Banquo is murdered, she retreats more and more and we no longer see her as part of a couple but as a separate entity. Fighting to cope, and realising that she had been naive to believe ‘a little water shall wash us of this deed’ when she proclaims in utmost horror ‘out damn spot! out I say! † when in her minds eye the guilt can never be removed from her hands. Macbeth begins to rely on knowledge and the security supplied him by the witches words. It is they who he seeks for advice and answers in the play, and with the answers he receives relies upon himself as the invincible entity. no one born of woman shall harm Macbeth’†¦ Towards the end of the play Lady Macbeth is overcome by guilt and becomes patently mad. She hallucinates ‘out damned spot! Out, I say! ‘ Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking and is speaking to herself; she can see blood and tries to wash it off but nothing will make the blood disappear. I think the blood represents the guilt she feels because of the realisation of her plot to kill King Duncan. Macbeth is still trying to come to terms with his relentless remorse because of his involvement in the killings of King Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macduff and her children. Macbeth doesn’t see Lady Macbeth’s suffering. Lady Macbeth does, however see Macbeth’s emotional anguish when they are holding a party. Macbeth sees an apparition of Banquo, his trusty and loyal friend who he ordered to be killed. Macbeth starts to rave at Banquo’s apparent ghost ‘Prithee, see there! Behold, look, lo! How say you! ‘ Lady Macbeth then tries to excuse her husband’s behaviour to all the guests, ‘think of this, good peers, but as thing of custom. ‘Tis no other, it only spoils the pleasure of the time. Lady Macbeth is not necessarily worried about Macbeth and his mental state because of her love for him, she is merely worried about her husband exposing the secret that only her and Macbeth know about, killing King Duncan. After Macbeth’s outburst she shows feelings of embarrassment and being ashamed of her husband’s behaviour as he was showing that he was weak and not worthy of becoming King. ‘You have displaced the mirth, broke the good meeting with most admired disorder’. This comment was to humiliate Macbeth and make him feel ashamed and guilty of his lack of self.

Investment Clubs Options P4DB Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Investment Clubs Options P4DB - Essay Example Still, this does not mean that a person should give up on the idea or desire of getting rich. 'Investing' is the option that allows a person to get affluent, provided one is willing to take intelligent and calculated risks. The second reason one must invest is that human body and mind deteriorate over time and so does the value of saved money. After having worked very hard in the youth, everyone desires to enjoy a happy and secure retired life. The problem is that the money saved by a person over time loses its worth owing to inflation (Orman, 2000). Hence, if a person has saved $ 100 one year and the rate of inflation is 5 percent, the next year that saved $ 100 will be able to purchase only $ 95 worth of goods and services. Now, imagine where one's savings will end, if one chooses to be a sitting duck before the vagaries of inflation. Hence, to make one's savings inflation proof, one ought to invest. Investment divests your savings of their laziness and makes your money work for you. Investing means making one's hard-earned money appreciate and generate income over time. 1. Before investing, an individual must be aware of one's short-term and long-term needs and requirements. Caring for short-term needs means making investments that can easily be liquidated. Such investments usually carry low returns. Providing for long-term needs means making investments that are more or less fixed over a specific period and yield high returns. One's genuine needs ought to define one's investment decisions. Therefore, if one is planning a baby next year, one will definitely have to pay the hospital bills and bear the other attached expenditures. In such a scenario, getting all one's savings entrapped in long-term investments is not wise. On the contrary, if one has young children and wants to provide for their college and university education, long term investments definitely make sense. 2. Always look forward to diversifying one's investments. Diversification means not risking everything on one endeavor. The entire motivation behind investing is the willingness of a person to take risk to get high returns. Hence, the magnitude of risk while investing is usually inversely proportional to the range of diversification (Markowitz, 1991). The more one diversify one's investments, the more is one insulated against risk. Therefore, it is always wiser to diversify investments among instruments like bonds, stocks, real estate, metals and mutual funds. 3. The investment and diversification strategy of an individual needs to be planned while taking into consideration one's age and the time left in one's retirement (Markowitz, 1991). While one is young, one can definitely afford to invest in high risk instruments in the expectation of getting good returns and optimal capital appreciation. However,

She was pregnant almost every year. When Aamir went home, Adeela was waiting by the door. She already received her husband's text message that he would be coming home. She waited patiently and read Aamir's face who entered the door with sweat in his brow. His face was darker than the clouds outside. He did not get the job again. Adeela patted her husband's shoulder. â€Å"Did you have dinner already?† â€Å"No, I did not.† â€Å"I cooked Biryani.† â€Å"Vegetables?† â€Å"I added some fish.† He went to the table and looked at the dish. He could see a pinch of fish. He wondered how it would be to be a fish. His wife would be having hundreds of twins maybe. â€Å"You go ahead and eat. This can last until the morning,† he told his wife. He went into the kitchen and opened the half-full carton of milk. He drank half a glass and went to bed. Adeela ate silently. Aamir turned on his phone's radio and listened to classical music. His mother used to play that to him when they were little. She played the violin before too, before the car accident. Then everything went downhill from there. Their father became a drunkard. They lost their carpet business to booze and cards. Aamir slept and snored noisily. Adeela just washed the dishes and lied beside her husband. She felt her twins kick hard inside her. She looked out the window. It was 10 PM and her husband said he'd be home by 8 PM. Two hours. Where did he go? Two hours ago Aamir walked mindlessly in the dark park. His hands were sunk deep into his pant's pockets. It was cold and it bit him. But he felt nothing. He had been trying to have a job for the past two months now. He wished for a laptop. It would have been nice to try writing again. He heard someone talking about writing online and making good money. He needed that. Good money. It would be nice to stay at home too. He could look after his wife and kids. He noticed two white teenagers had been following him. He thought they couldn't steal anything from him. But if they killed him, that wouldn't be good. His wife would be helpless without him. Aamir decided to walk faster and left the park's darker paths. The snores made her stay awake for a good part of the night. Adeela didn't mind. She slept soundly the whole day, while her husband looked for a job. She went over the classified ads herself. She found two or three jobs that she could apply for. Part-time jobs. But Aamir did not want to hear about it. She wished she was the man instead. The clock tic ked longer when it was morning. Adeela received a phone call from her mother, who checked everyday if she was okay. Her mother called twice a day. Sometimes thrice. Or four times. She always hanged up after knowing that Aamir haven't found any job yet. Her mother suggested, â€Å"Why don't you come here? You can stay and save rent. Food. He could work at the laundry business.† â€Å"No Mama. He wouldn't like that.† â€Å"You married a proud man. You cannot use ego to buy food and milk. I have to go now.† Adeela could hear it. The breaking sound of her mother's voice who wanted
